292 Te Ngae Road,
Service Technician — CLAAS Harvest Centre, Echuca
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I started my apprenticeship in 1997 with John Deere and after finishing my apprenticeship, I decided to travel through Queensland doing a variety of jobs, before moving back home to work for a hay contractor operating and maintaining a big fleet of big square balers, tractors, sprayers and trucks for 6 years. Now I have a wife, two kids and a mortgage!
When did you start working at CLAAS Harvest Centre?
I’ve been at CLAAS Harvest Centre, Echuca since 2014.
What does a typical day involve?
There's no 'typical' day for me. We have a lot of variety here at Echuca due to the surrounding farming industries - we have beef cattle, sheep, dairy, dry land cropping, irrigated cropping, horticulture and viticulture all operating in the surrounding area. This ensure we do a bit of everything here at Echuca. I mainly do a lot of work with CLAAS LEXION, so even in the winter 'off-season' we are finishing off our pre-season work, talking on the phone with customers and helping them get sorted out with their machines and attachments - with what they are trying to do and how they are trying to do it.
At this time of year I will rock up at 7am and start by taking care of emails and phone calls, before usually moving out with one of the younger guys into the field to visit customers to help with repairs or pre-season inspections.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The great opportunity to travel around seeing successful farmers and contractors use our machinery and get the most out of their equipment - hopefully the machine does more than the customer expected!
