JCB releases new-generation loaders

JCB has released the third-generation of its industry-leading Loadall telescopic handlers. Boasting a new cab and a host of improvements that further enhance the brand’s renowned performance, efficiency, safety, comfort and serviceability, the new series comprises six models with lift capacities from 3.2 to 5.6 tonnes and a maximum reach of 6 to 9 metres.

CLAAS Harvest Centre Product Manager – JCB, Steve Gorman, says the new Command Plus cab raises the bar for comfort and functionality even higher. “It features the same adjustable steering column, control layout and function-grouped switches utilised in JCB Fastrac tractors and wheeled loaders,” he says. “This makes it easier for operators to switch from one type of JCB machine to another and to use each in the most productive way possible. A seat-mounted joystick and control pod configuration is standard in Agri Torque Lock4, Agri Super and Agri Pro specifications."

“Overall, the cab is 12 percent larger than the previous model. A wide door opening and adjustable push-away steering column with working position memory make it easy for operators to enter and exit the cab. The lack of bare metal inside the cab means is 50 percent quieter than the previous design.”

The elimination of the front cross-member from the roof has increased the glazed area by 14 percent, allowing operators to view raised booms and implements more easily. The large front wiper and two roof-mounted wipers sweep 92 percent of the curved windscreen glass.

The larger, tablet-like digital instrument display is attached to the windscreen glass. A Bluetooth radio and integrated microphone and speakers allow hands-free calls and entertainment. Storage space includes a lift-out bin behind the seat for documents, tools, food and drinks.

The cabin’s improved airflow, demisting and defrosting functions allow the loaders to be put to use first thing on a winter morning.

All models are equipped with the 4.4 L JCB EcoMAX engine that delivers 109 hp or 125 hp, while high specification models are fitted with a 4.8 L version delivering 145 hp. The SERIES III range uses DUALTECH VT to fully exploit the power and economy potential of the EcoMAX UN Stage 3 engine.

A range of transmissions are available, including the 40 km/h four-speed JCB Powershift manual transmission, 40 km/h TorqueLock4 transmission with direct-drive torque converter lock-up in top gear and the 40 km/h six-speed JCB Autoshift transmission.

The unique JCB DualTech VT transmission combines hydrostatic and powershift elements in one unit. “You can shift gears, speed and direction quickly and easily with one simple control using the joystick,” Steve says. “There is also a switchable transmission disconnect on the brake pedal.”

The Auto Smoothride System (SRS) engages at speeds of over 4 km/h, improving load retention and comfort when traveling at speed on roads and in the field. The new series features a high capacity hydraulic system with a flow rate of 140 L/minute for rapid boom operation. The boom end damping system improves material retention and makes for a smoother work cycle.

Hydraulic auxiliary venting can be activated from inside the cab or outside the cab for quick and safe attachment changeover. The auto bucket control system makes it easier to meter out or fully empty material from the bucket.

Options include twin-line air trailer braking with seven-pin electrics and an anti-lock braking (ABS) socket, and a combination of twin-line air and single-line hydraulic braking for trailed equipment.
